LESSON 1
Ancient Egyptians and Death

Students will analyze ancient Egyptian mortuary practices, how this reflects in our understanding of ancient Egyptian culture, and how, in general, cultures are judged by their archeological remains.

For Grade Level(s):  9–10

Time Needed:  one class period

GUIDING QUESTIONS
1. What do we know about ancient Egyptian burial practices? 

2. Does this provide us with a comprehensive picture of their society or even their society’s burial practices?

3. Were ancient Egyptians fixated on death? If not, why is that a prominent point of view in modern society?

LESSON 2
Gender Roles in Ancient Egyptian Society

Students will study information about the roles and responsibilities of women and men in ancient Egyptian society and then create a skit to reflect what they have learned.

For Grade Level(s):  9–10

Time Needed:  Four class periods

1. Describe significant elements of gender role in ancient Egypt.

2. Compare gender roles in ancient Egypt to other societies. What are the similarities and differences?

3. Why do you think there are differences in gender roles socially as compared to legally in Ancient Egypt?
