St. Gregory the Illuminator, the Patron Saint of Armenia
Armenians have played an important role in the history of the Middle East since antiquity. Originally converting to Christianity in the fourth century CE, Armenians represented an important minority in the Ottoman Empire up to the twentieth century. Today, most Armenians live in the Republic of Armenia, but an important community continues to thrive in Lebanon.
