Field of Reeds
Scene from the tomb of Sennedjem, a workman in the Valley of the Kings, showing his vision of the Field of Reeds in the afterlife. A Nile in the afterlife runs through lush agricultural land, including grain fields and gardens with fruit trees. Sennedjem and his wife, Iyneferti, plow behind spotted oxen and reap the resulting grain, some of which ended up on the offering table in the middle right, together with lotuses and other symbols of rebirth and regeneration. Toward the top, Sennedjem's son performs the opening of the mouth ceremony on his father's mummy, allowing the mummy to live again and join the gods in their daily travels along the river.
