Plan of the City of Uruk
This plan shows key features of the early city of Uruk: the city walls, large settled area, and two central high points that supported temples. The temples were dedicated to the patron deity of the city, Inanna, who was the Sumerian goddess of love and war. By 3100 BCE, the population of Uruk may have reached 50,000 people.
