Two Arab Women from Egypt

Two Arab Women from Egypt

The Zangaki brothers were commercial photographers resident in Egypt and active from the 1860s to the 1890s. Their pictures captured the local sights and antiquities, but also Cairo street scenes and ethnic groups. They were usually stiff and posed, focusing on clothing and other signs of exotic difference, as here. They catered for a growing Western tourist market in the Middle East.
