Globalization has truly come to the Middle East, as evidenced by this advertisement for the McArabia meal, a local offer by McDonald’s in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Global consumer goods now infiltrate nearly every country in the region, and near-ubiquitous satellite television brings images from across the globe into the living rooms of Middle Eastern homes. Just as it does everywhere else in the world, advertising drives the consumption desires of residents of the Middle East, and opens up a new frontier for the debates over what constitutes intrusive Western culture.
